The Mayor’s Youth Employment Program is a great opportunity for Juniors and Seniors to get hands on experience to prepare for their future in the workforce. In order to join this amazing program, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA to participate. They then undergo a rigorous selection process in which 60 students are chosen for training and then of those 60, 25 will be chosen to participate in the internships. Carlos Figueroa is one of the Junior participants, claims “It took dedication and persistence, [however] It is a great experience” he also mentioned he feels privileged to “know what it is like to be in a professional work environment” before going into the workforce. A Senior participant, Hanh Nguyen, said “The program will show [our community] that Garinger students can excel in the career of their choice, and this will give us an advantage and it is great experience.”
