On a chilly Wednesday morning, Garinger High School’s lawn was interrupted by a small group of reporters.

Ms. Lemere’s first block headed to the front of the school, where the GHS Fallen Alumni memorial is, to investigate.

At 7 a.m., a reporter named Jon Wilson – a.k.a. – Wilson –  from WCCB’s  Rising morning show, went on air to talk about the Veteran’s parade being held in Uptown Charlotte at 11 a.m. Nov. 8. Twenty-one CMS ROTC units, including Garinger High School’s, will be marching together to celebrate, thank, and honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country.

Why would they broadcast with Garinger High School as their background setting?

The Freedom Foundation is honoring the Garinger Alumni Foundation, which erected a monument in front of Garinger to honor the former Garinger students who died in the Vietnam War. The group aims to raise $100,000 each year which goes toward scholarship named after each of the fallen student. A breakfast was held Friday, Nov. 7 in their honor.
