Officials dedicated a crosswalk in front of Garinger Wednesday morning in the memory of Brittany Palmer, who was struck and killed by a vehicle two years ago while crossing Eastway Drive.

Ms. Katrina White, Brittany’s mother, shared  what this special event meant to her and how important it is for drivers and walkers in street safety.

Brittany was 18 years young and was just about to finish her last months of high school, her mother explained.

Members of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church, one of whom grew up with Brittany, were also present. Madison Smith said her reaction at the time was “Shocking and confused and hurt, it took me months to accept she was in reality gone.”

This event is meant to bring attention not only to the walkers of the street, but also drivers. Engineering and manufacturing corporations repaired and designed the street, hoping to decrease the dangerous and terrible events that has happened throughout the years.

As a sidewalk plaque in memory of Brittany Taylor Palmer states: “A precious life, a precious light, and now precious in Heaven’s sight.”
